This gently inclined premium trail takes you around the village of Kniebis, offering several way stations and some magnificent views.
Information boards along the way tell you about local history, flora and fauna and forest management. The way stations include a bee hotel, the bird and hunters' trail, a bird's nest and a charcoal kiln.
From the "Ellbachseeblick" viewing platform, walk down to the idyllic glacial lake "Ellbachsee". Distance 1.5 km, difference in altitude: 150 m, duration: 45 minutes.

Starting from the visitor centre, the trail takes you along the Räuberwegle section to the Ellbachseeblick viewing platform, then along the edge of the forest with fine views over the village. Benches invite you to rest and enjoy the sun. You then take the Vogel- & Jägerpfad (bird & hunters path) towards your next destination, the abbey ruins at Kniebis-Dorf. Past the Abendwieshütte BBQ area, you then return to the start via Baden Kniebis. Look out for the well-preserved traces of the Zähring era on the Grenzweg.
Public-transport-friendlyFrom Freudenstadt by bus to Kniebis Skistadion. Busses no. 12 + 7266 (Mon-Fri) or F2 + F13 (weekend, bank holidays).
By roadTake the B28 from Freudenstadt or Strasbourg to Kniebis, the visitor centre (Besucherzentrum) is directly on the main road.
From Baden-Baden, take the B500 towards Freudenstadt and then the B28.
