Wonderful tour around Kniebis for young and old, mostly along narrow footpaths, with almost no difference in altitude.
The “homeland trail” is a premium trail and also certified as a Black Forest “gourmand trail / Genießerpfad". Rich in variety, it leads around the village of Kniebis, through forests, moorland and meadows, with beautiful views of the Black Forest, its mountains, valleys and lakes. Information boards describe the history of Kniebis, past and present forest uses, biology, etc. With its different sections and stations, such as a bee hotel, a bird path and the robbers’ trail, it enjoys great popularity with young and old. Visit the old ruined monastery and the “Ellbachseeblick“ viewing platform (for a fantastic view over the “Ellbachsee” lake and the village of Mitteltal to the “Hornisgrinde”, the highest mountain in the Northern Black Forest (1,164 m). Comfortable benches and several restaurants along the trail invite you to take a break.
From the "Ellbachseeblick" viewing platform, walk down to the idyllic glacial lake "Ellbachsee". Distance 1.5 km, difference in altitude: 150 m, duration: 45 minutes.
Getting thereTake the B28 from Freudenstadt or Strasbourg to Kniebis, the visitor centre (Besucherzentrum) is directly on the main road.
From Baden-Baden, take the B500 towards Freudenstadt and then the B28.
