1st stage: Pforzheim - Bad Wildbad (approx. 23 km)

Our first stage of the Mittelweg long-distance hiking trail starts in Pforzheim, the Baden residence town that is almost 1000 years old. We hike through the village of Dillweißenstein and on a forest path via Büchenbronn to the Büchenbronn lookout tower and on to Langenbrand. On a somewhat longer forest section, we reach the spa town of Bad Wildbad via the Charlottenhöhe of Calmbach.

2nd stage: Bad Wildbad - Besenfeld (approx. 31 km)

.

After visiting the spa gardens in Bad Wildbad, which are well worth seeing, we set off in the direction of Besenfeld. The trail winds through an idyllic landscape past Kaltenbronn and up the 988 m high Hohloh with the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower, which is definitely worth a detour. We then pass the Schramberg log cabin on our hiking trail, where there is a memorial stone for the Murgschifferschaft forest inspector Arnsperger. From here it is not far to our stage destination Besenfeld.

3rd stage: Besenfeld - Freudenstadt (approx. 19 km)

On this stage we cover a large section on shady forest paths. We hike past the 763 m high Kienberg and then arrive in the Kneipp spa town of Freudenstadt. Freudenstadt has a number of sights to offer its visitors and guests, such as the market square with its arcades and arcades and the Protestant town church.

4th stage: Freudenstadt - Schiltach (approx. 28 km)

In Germany's highest medium-sized town, we set off in a south-westerly direction through the village of Oberer Zwieselberg and on via Burgwaldhöhe and Sulzerköpfle to Schiltach. This town has existed since the 11th century and impresses visitors with its medieval old town, town hall and market square.

5th stage: Schiltach - St. Georgen (approx. 31 km)

.

At the beginning of this stage, we hike a good stretch uphill alternately across meadows, fields and through forests to the 887 m high Mooswaldkopf, where the Fohrenbühl memorial house invites you to take a break. Passing the Schenkenbauernhof and Windkapf, we finally reach St. Georgen.

6th stage: St. Georgen - Kaltenherberg (approx. 26 km)

Before entering the shady forest again at Albertsgrund, we enjoy the sun once more. We then march via the Stöcklewald tower into the town centre of Furtwangen and continue along the field and forest path "Im Mäderstal" to the Kalte Herberge rest house in Kaltenherberg.

7th stage: Kaltenherberg - Lenzkirch (approx. 26 km)

This stage takes us past the idyllic farmsteads of Hinter and Vorder Margrutt and via Titisee-Neustadt to Lenzkirch.

8th stage: Lenzkirch - Häusern (approx. 20 km)

We leave the climatic spa town of Lenzkirch and pass through sparse woodland, meadows and fields through the village of Unterfischbach. The route continues past Schluchsee via Blasiwald and Althütte to Häusern. Incidentally, Schluchsee is the largest lake in the Black Forest.

9th stage: Häusern - Waldshut-Tiengen (approx. 23 km)

On the Würzemoos trail, we first hike along the edge of the forest and then along forest and meadow paths of the southern Upper Black Forest to the Höchenschwand spa park. The last stretch of the Black Forest long-distance hiking trail Mittelweg takes us past small farms via Nöggenschwiel, Heubach and Indlekofen to Waldshut-Tiengen on the Swiss border. Sights such as the Schaffhauser Tor, the Schultheißsche Haus, the Greiffenegg-Schlössle, the Gottesackerkapelle chapel or the old Metzig ensure a successful conclusion to our adventure tour through the Black Forest.
